When we think Japanese fashion and Tokyo street style, it is difficult not to conjure up a vivid image of Harajuku girls dressed in poka-dots and bright yellow and blue striped Alice in Wonderland’esque dresses holding a staff worthy of Little Boo Peep. It’s hard not to, especially when part of that is genuine Tokyo street style, in fact the top 2 floors of many fashion department stores consists only of Goth and Lolita (the latter being the doll-like arch nemesis of the former). But in addition to this very honest and somewhat ignorant stereotype, Japanese street style adapts western trends with a perspective uniquely its own.
Japanese street wear seems to be a daring marriage made in the streets of Brooklyn and serendipitously wed with the effortlessness of Parisian chic. Vintage Abercrombie is quite coveted in Tokyo, often sold at higher than retail prices in small boutique shops in Harajuku, mind you second hand. Street style doesn’t boast wearing name brands from head to toe but instead pairs the most everyday pieces from small boutiques in very unpredictable and unconventional ways. Albeit not everyone can pull off some of these daring outfits, it remains an inspiration to help push the boundaries of men’s styling beyond T-shirt and jeans. And don’t worry, it’s totally OK to be weird if weird is just not dressing like a drone. NoFilter took to the styling capital with department stores like 0101 Men’s to take you on a quick shopping tour on what’s new, what’s cool, and how people are wearing it.

They love NYC just as much as we do :). Sweat pants that actually look like slacks when worn. Comfy!
